Green Waste Drop-off points

Find out about your options for disposing of green waste in the Queenstown Lakes District.

 

Wakatipu

The Council is working on a proposal for a purpose built green waste facility.  In the meantime, green waste can be taken to:

Frankton Transfer Station

What type of green waste is accepted?

Tree branches up to 400mm in diameter and small tree stumps. 

What is not accepted?

Broom, gorse, flax, cabbage trees, grasses, leaves, weeds, sawdust, timber off-cuts, crates, wood packaging or gib board will not be accepted.

Cost

$65 per tonne.

Opening hours

Opening hours 8am – 5pm, 7 days a week.

The Transfer Station is closed on Christmas Day, New Years Day, Good Friday and until 12noon on ANZAC day.

 

Wanaka

The Wanaka Green Waste facility is privately owned and operated and trading as ‘ Wanaka Compost Products’.  It is located at corner of Ballantyne & Riverbank Roads is currently not available for public use.

As this private service is not currently available the Council has arranged that green waste can be taken next door at the transfer station operated by Otago Southland Waste Services.

Cost

Charges are $65 per tonne, $13 under 200kg, $6.50 for small car load.

The Transfer Station do not accept the same variety of green waste material as the Green Waste Facility.

Community Run Facilities

Glenorchy, Kingston, Lake Hawea, Luggate and Makorara all have greenwaste facilities that are community run.
