Remarkables Centre

A progress report and economic feasibility assessment was presented to the Council in August 2007.  The Council decided to disband the working party and put the project on hold.

Council will soon hold workshops with key stakeholders and then test the value of the facility against the long term cost to existing and future ratepayers.  Watch this space...

Background Information

This community has an opportunity to consider the development of a very large section of reserve land at Ballarat Street, exclusively tagged for a community purpose.

The Tomorrow's Queenstown strategic planning workshop in 2002 identified potential uses for the site and resolved that this should form the basis of a brief for a working party to be established to investigate the Ballarat Street site. The working party was established in July 2002.

The working party carried out an investigation of 2 projects, a performing and visual arts centre / community group facility and underground parking.

Outline Design Plan

An outline design brief was circulated to user groups and the community for comment before it was released to architects for the design competition.
