Elections

Voting system for 2010 and 2013

The Council has resolved to use the First Past the Post (FPP) voting method for the 2010 and 2013 local body elections.  This means that voters choose one person per seat and the candidate with the most votes wins.

Ward representation

The Queenstown Lakes District will be represented by:

  • 1 Mayor (district wide).
  • 1 councillor to represent the Arrowtown Ward.
  • 6 councillors to represent the Queenstown/Wakatipu Ward.
  • 3 councillors to represent the Wanaka Ward.
  • A Wanaka Community Board consisting of 4 board members and the 3 Wanaka Ward Councillors.

Only residents or property owners in the Wanaka Ward are entitled to vote for Wanaka Ward Councillors and Wanaka Community Board Members.  The same rule applies for the Wakatipu and Arrowtown wards.
