Composting and green waste facilities

Find out about your options for disposing of green waste in the Queenstown Lakes District.

Wakatipu
The Council is working on a proposal for a purpose built green waste facility.  In the meantime, green waste can be taken to:

Frankton Transfer Station
Glenda Drive, Frankton Industrial Estate

Opening hours 8am – 5pm, 7 days a week. 

What type of greenwaste is accepted?
Tree branches up to 400mm in diameter and small tree stumps.
 
What is not accepted?
Broom, gorse, flax, cabbage trees, grasses, leaves, weeds, sawdust, timber off-cuts, crates, wood packaging or gib board will not be accepted.

The Transfer Station is closed on Christmas Day, New Years Day, Good Friday and until 12noon on ANZAC day.

Wanaka
The Wanaka Green Waste Depot accept all green waste at a cost of $12 per cubic metre.  Flax will only be accepted by prior arrangement.  The depot also sells firewood, compost, mulch and woodchips when available.
