Future proofing our waste water systems.

Inflow and Infiltration surveys
The Council wants to reduce overflow and free up capacity at wastewater treatment plants.  But first, we need to know what we’re dealing with.   The Council will soon be doing an in-depth inspection of wastewater infrastructure throughout the Queenstown Lakes District.

What’s involved?
When large amounts of rainwater (stormwater) get into the wastewater pipes, it can put added pressure on the infrastructure, in turn affecting its ability to meet future growth demands.

Council contractors will visit properties door to door and check for faults that could be compromising the efficiency of the infrastructure.  This includes
• Checking that stormwater and wastewater pipes are connected properly.
• Making sure that gully traps are at an acceptable height.
• Identifying damaged infrastructure and making sure that any recent repairs are still up to standard.

When will the inspections happen?
Property owners will be contacted at least one week before the survey work is scheduled to take place.
