Lake Esplanade Utilities and Road upgrade
An important infrastructure upgrade project will take place over spring / summer on Lake Esplanade.
The project, between the Steamer Wharf and Fernhill Roundabout, is made up of two parts:
Utilities upgrade:
-
Water services - replacement of sections of a water main, replacement of water valves, replacement of laterals, new valves and flow meters. This work will take place both on the road and footpath and will involve brief water shutdowns.
-
Street lighting - new street lights will be installed and current street lights will be upgraded.
-
Ducting for fibre communications.
Roading upgrade:
-
New asphalt surface, new kerb and channel on the lake side, associated stormwater drainage, new painted road markings
-
Safety improvements for cyclists.
-
Improved pedestrian facilities.
The Council is working to minimise disruption to traffic and water use.

The following plan shows the timing of each stage of work.

But the Council dug up the road last summer...
Unfortunately this is the second summer in a row that major works have been done on Lake Esplanade. This project completes the infrastructure requirements for this area for the foreseeable future.
No work will take place during the busy summer period from 17 December 2010 until after Waitangi Day 2011.
