Managing Carparking
Find out how car parking is managed in the Queenstown Lakes District.
What we do
The Council provides 3,759 car parking spaces throughout the Queenstown Lakes District. These are made up of unrestricted, metered, time restricted, pay and display and leased parking spaces.
There are also other public carparks provided by private companies.
How we do it
Lakes Environmental Limited manages all on-street car parking provided by the Council, in both Queenstown and Wanaka.
Parking wardens
Lakes Environmental employs parking wardens to monitor Council parking spaces and give out parking fines when required.
Meter eyes
Meter eyes have been installed in some areas of Queenstown. These magic little devices alert the parking warden when a vehicle has overstayed the parking limit. This helps us to make sure that car parks with shorter time limits are used appropriately.
Parking ambassadors
During the Christmas/New years period, the Council employs parking ambassadors to help visitors find car parking.
