Town Link to be Officially Opened
- Jan 20, 2006
The Fernhill Town Link Track from Cameron Place to Thompson Street will be officially opened next week, Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Anne Relling said.
The scenic 800 metre track, which has opened up a 15 minute walking/biking link between town and Fernhill, featured two bridges, including the 25 metre steel truss One Mile Bridge.
It gives the option of a relatively gentle walk or ride, away from the increasing flow of traffic.
A ribbon cutting ceremony would take place at the One Mile Bridge on Thursday 26 January at 4pm.
"We have invited Fernhill resident Garry Bradshaw to cut the ribbon through his ongoing involvement and support of this project over the last 8 years," Ms Relling said.
The opening would be followed by a community barbeque at the Fernhill playground.
"There is an open invitation to anyone who would like to come along and celebrate this great new addition to our walkways," Ms Relling said.
The $190,000 walkway was funded via a Fernhill community trust ($30,000) the Council ($30,000) and Transfund ($130,000).
