Library to Reopen After Christmas
The Queenstown and District Library, situated on Gorge Road Queenstown, will reopen after Christmas, Queenstown Lakes District Council, library manager Adele Hewlett said.
The library sustained substantial flooding damage to carpets on Wednesday after heavy rain caused pooling around the entrance to the building.
"We had hoped to be in a position to reopen before Christmas but unfortunately the floor is still drying out," Ms Hewlett said.
Meanwhile people could still return their books to the Queenstown library using the return slot and cardholders were able to borrow books from any other library in the district, including Arrowtown and Wanaka.
A children's Christmas holiday programme scheduled to take place at the library today was able to be relocated to the Memorial Hall.
It was hoped to re-open the library on Wednesday 28 December.
