Options for collection

Rubbish collection in the Queenstown Lakes District is a user pays service.  This means that the cost of the Council-approved blue rubbish bags and residential wheelie bins covers the cost of collection and disposal.

 

Council-approved blue rubbish bags

Council-approved degradable blue rubbish bags can be purchased from Council offices, supermarkets or transfer stations, there are two available sizes:

  • 30 litre, cost $2.00 per bag
  • 60 litre, cost $3.00 per bag

 

Council-approved residential wheelie bins

The Council has an agreement with Northern Southland Transport to collect rubbish from their residential 120 litre and 240 litre wheelie bins on a weekly basis.  The annual cost of this service is as follows:

120 litre wheelie bin $177.78 (plus GST) per annum
240 litre wheelie bin $308.44 (plus GST) per annum
These charges apply from 1st July 2010 to 30th June 2011 and cover the cost of collection and disposal of rubbish, administration costs, depreciation, maintenance and replacement of the wheelie bins.

Wanaka Collection Days

Please place your rubbish bag or wheelie bin out on the kerb by 8am on your rubbish day.

Monday:

  • Wanaka Township (South), Southwest of Wanaka-Luggate Highway including the Central Business District.

Tuesday:

  • Wanaka Township North of Wanaka-luggate Highway including Hedditch Street, Plantation Road, Reece Crescent and Aubrey Road.

Wednesday:

  • Mount Iron and Wanaka area, from Anderson Road to Ewing Place and Old Racecourse Road.  This includes Mount Iron Drive and Marariki Place.
  • Albert Town, State Highway 6 to Lake Hawea including rural collection points on Dublin Bay Road and Maungawera Road.
  • All of Lake Hawea, including a rural collection point outside the green waste depot on Domain Road.
  • Hawea Flat.

Thursday:

  • Luggate Highway turn-off to Hawea through to and including all of Luggate.

 

Wakatipu Collection Days

Please place your rubbish bag or wheelie bin out on the kerb by 8am on your rubbish day.

Monday:

  • All of Arrowtown.
  • Lake Hayes and State Highway 6 back to the Events Centre.  This includes Tucker Beach Road and Quail Rise.
  • Malaghans Road from Dalefield Road to Arrowtown.
  • Hunter Road from Malaghans Road to Mooney Road.  This includes a collection point at the end of Mooney Road.
  • McDonnell Road.
  • Centennial Avenue from Arrowtown to State Highway 6.
  • Rural collection point at the base of the Crown Range Road.

Tuesday:

  • All of Kelvin Heights
  • All of Frankton.
  • Frankton Road from Pounamu Apartments/Spinnaker Bay to the Events Centre

Wednesday:

  • All of Central Queenstown to Pounamu Apartments / Spinnaker Bay.

Thursday:

  • All of Fernhill and Sunshine Bay.
  • All of Arthur’s Point.
  • Malaghans Road from Arthur’s Point to and including Dalefield Road.
  • Littles Road to Fitzpatrick Road.
  • Domain Road, Speargrass Flat Road, Hogans Gully Road and Lower Shotover Road, including both ends of Slopehill Road.
  • Morven Ferry Road and Arrow Junction Road.
  • Rural collection point on the corner of Lower Shotover Road and Spense Road.
  • Rural collection point for Gibbston Valley on Coal Pit Road.
  • Lake Hayes Estate.

Friday:

  • All of Kingston.
  • All of Glenorchy.

Out by 8!

Please make sure your rubbish and recycling is out on the kerb before 8am on your rubbish day.

Did you know?

You can be fined $100 for dropping rubbish in a public area or leaving your rubbish out on the kerb on the wrong day at the wrong time or in the wrong place? 

Keep our streets clean, phone the Council if you notice rubbish dumped illegally.
