About Queenstown Airport

As Aotearoa New Zealand’s fourth busiest airport for passenger numbers and the gateway to Central Otago and the Southern Lakes region, Queenstown Airport is a key economic driver of the region’s tourism industry and the wider local economy.

Located in Frankton, a ten-minute drive from central Queenstown, the airport services the surrounding area with daily domestic flights and regular direct trans-Tasman flights. It is also one of New Zealand's busiest helicopter bases and is heavily used for tourist 'flightseeing', especially to Piopiotahi Milford Sound and Aoraki Mount Cook, using both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.

  • Queenstown Airport Corporation Ltd (QAC) is owner and operator of Queenstown International Airport and the operator of Wānaka Airport under a management services agreement. Queenstown Airport is the fourth largest airport in Aotearoa New Zealand. One of the present directors is retiring from the Board at its February Meeting and the shareholders are seeking to appoint a replacement. An advantage for candidates considering this vacancy will be a strong background in finance, auditing and / or risk management, a professional director, or a practicing chartered accountant. The successful candidate will be someone who can work as part of a diverse team and looking to make a positive contribution to this important community asset.

    QAC is a Council Controlled Trading Organisation (CCTO). It is owned by the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC – 75.01%) and Auckland International Airport (AIAL – 24.99%). This ownership structure creates an additional layer of public accountability and responsibility for the Board.

    Applications are sought from suitably qualified candidates for this position. Queenstown Airport Liaison Committee

The purpose of the committee is to act as a forum and interface between the Queenstown Airport Corporation, the community and other stakeholders regarding day-to-day issues related to noise at Queenstown Airport. The appointment of representatives reflects the communities in close proximity to the Queenstown Airport: Frankton, Kelvin Heights, Hanleys Farm/Jacks Point, Lake Hayes Estate/Quail Rise/Shotover Country. 

The functions of the community representatives on QALC are to:

  • Present the views of the local residents and community (including neighbouring properties and special interest groups);

  • Ensure resident and community views have a direct route into the noise management process; and

  • Promote communication and understanding between the residents / community and the Queenstown Airport Corporation and airport users and providing regular feedback on the deliberations of the QALC.
