Future planning workshops were undertaken district-wide from 2002-2004, resulting in the preparation of community plans for Queenstown, Wanaka, Arrowtown, Glenorchy, Hawea, Cardrona, Kingston, Luggate and Makarora.
Wanaka Structure Plan
Following the Wanaka 2020 workshops and Growth Options Study, the Council decided that it needed to undertake detailed structure planning of the land surrounding the Wanaka township. This was key to making sure that Wanaka develops in a managed way that meets the needs of the growing community.
The Structure Plan provides direction for future new zones in the District Plan.
The Wanaka Structure Plan report was adopted as a working draft by the Strategy Committee in November 2004, then reviewed and adopted by the Council on 19 December 2007.
The Council now plans to incorporate the Structure Plan Review into the District Plan through a series of plan changes
