Everything you need to know about recycling services in Wanaka.

 

Kerbside Recycling Collection Days

Please put your recycling crate out by 8am on your normal rubbish day.   >> Find out your rubbish collection day

 

The following materials can go into your recycling crate:

  • Plastics 1-7.  Washed, squashed and lids off.
  • Tins and aluminium cans.  Washed and squashed.
  • Glass bottles and jars.  Washed with the lids off.

 

Put the following materials on top of or next to your recycling crate:

  • Paper and small cardboard items.  For example office paper, magazines, newspaper, egg cartons, cereal boxes.  Bundle these items into a tied shopping bag and place on top of, or next to your crate.
  • Larger cardboard items.  Please flatten, bundle and tie up, and place next to your crate.

 

Recycling no-no's

  • Plastic bags or glad wrap.
  • Pesticides, oil or hazardous chemicals.
  • Pyrex, ceramics, window glass or broken glass.
  • Materials contaminated with food.
  • Plastic or metal binding.
  • Wax coated or foil lined cartons, for example milk or juice cartons.

 

If you have extra recyclables that don't fit in your crate, please drop them off at Wanaka Wastebusters Recycling Centre:

Wanaka Wastebusters will also accept:

  • used mineral oil*
  • used batteries
  • compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • printer cartridges

* Only engine oil and machinery lubricating oil will be accepted.  No oil mixed with fuel or cooking oil will be accepted.  Please ask for assistance if you are dropping off oil.

 

Does the Wanaka Wastebusters Recycling Centre have a re-use shop?

Yes! Wanaka Wastebusters ‘re-use’ shop accepts items that are in working order and good condition. Items for sale include second hand goods such as furniture, bedding, clothes, electrical items, books, building materials, and sports equipment.

Please make sure your rubbish and recycling is out on the kerb before 8am on your rubbish day.
