QLDC is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) on behalf of Film Otago Southland, for suitably qualified, interested persons for trustee appointments.

Film Otago Southland is a Regional Film Office (RFO), internationally referred to as a “film office” or “film commission”. Broadly speaking, it carries out activities alongside and in partnership with other stakeholders to stimulate economic growth for their region through screen production attraction and marketing, sector development initiatives for businesses and maximising opportunities for the internal sector, as well as policy development, screen facilitation and permitting. RFOs successfully facilitate the relationship between the screen sector, government, community and others impacted or benefited by its activity. Production value in the region for 2015 financial year was $35 million based on information from Statistics NZ.

The role of the board is to set the strategic direction of the organization, define policy, provide accountability, facilitate relationships and create an environment in which the film office can thrive.

It is expected that the trustees will have sound business and political acumen, with an appropriate mix of some of the following skills, attributes or areas of experience:

  • Strategic planning
  • Policy making
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Funding
  • Networking and advocacy
  • Relationship management
  • Economic development
  • Sustainability and environmental protection
  • Education and skills development

While there is no requirement for trustees to have Film Industry experience we envisage the board having appropriate industry representation. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate established networks in regional, local and/or central government, film industry, DoC, local Iwi or other relevant spheres of influence. Please note that the role is unpaid.

EOI applications should include an engaging covering letter, a completed EOI Form and a CV (maximum 3 pages in length) setting out the applicant’s experience, skills and qualifications to be a trustee.

Applications are to be sent to EOI@qldc.govt.nz by close of business on Friday 28 October.
