About Baby Box:
Last year the Queenstown Lakes Baby Box Charitable Trust was formed with the mandate to undertake the provision of Baby Boxes to the families of the Queenstown Lakes area to provide the box and contents for new mothers that have been created and provided by local people of group. It includes woolen blankets suitable for our climate, recyclable nappies, books etc. every part of the box contents has a local link. They will provide every family expecting a baby, a box at no cost by fundraising for them. The box itself also acts as a connector in the community with many of the residents knitting for the newborns and they plan to connect many groups to support each other’s needs through this
The Baby Box is designed as a package of essential items required for the first 9 months of a child’s life – everything a child and their guardians would need to give them the best possible start. The Box itself is also designed to be the baby’s first crib, with a firm mattress, sturdy design and matching bed clothes. The simple, effective design of the box coupled with its firm mattress helps promote safe sleeping.
The trust will be working closely with Plunket and local midwives to help distribute to boxes in plenty of time for the baby’s arrival and their mission is very simply - to fundraise to cover the costs relating to Baby Box and its contents alongside distributing the special boxes to every baby born in the district each year.
