Responsible Camping Strategy
A multi-agency Responsible Camping Strategy has now been adopted for the Queenstown Lakes District.
QLDC adopted the Strategy at its meeting on 25 October 2018.
A multi-agency approach is vital to allow all of the agencies that administer public land in the district to take part in the process and have a united vision for the future of camping in the area. We’re grateful for the support and input from Ministry of Business and Innovation, Department of Conservation, New Zealand Transport Association and Land Information New Zealand.
We are also working closely with our friends at Central Otago District Council and Southland District Council. This allows us to consider any impacts of tourists coming and going between the districts and how any proposed changes might influence the wider area.
What happens next?
The agencies are working together to determine an implementation plan. We'll update here when this is available.
