Marina Proposal to Progress

Date:

A developer has been asked to formally progress its proposal to redevelop the Frankton Marina, Queenstown Lakes District Council Frankton Marina project manager Ken Gousmett said.

The Council sought expressions of interest and preliminary designs from experienced developers to undertake the design, construction and operation of a commercial multi berth offshore marina with access via the Frankton Marina Recreation Reserve. Expressions of interest closed in mid-October.

"This week a sub committee of Council considered some additional information on one of the proposals and agreed that the proposal submitted by Queenstown Marina Developments Ltd should be further progressed," Mr Gousmett said.

The Council has now requested that the company proceed with geotechnical investigations.

"The geotechnical investigation is to include load tests of the proposed anchor system and full disclosure of the geotechnical test results," Mr Gousmett said.

Should the geotechnical investigations show that the proposed structures onshore and the offshore floating marina are feasible and practical then the Council would enter into further negotiations with the company.

"At this point the Council is extremely keen to get on and progress this project," Mr Gousmett said.

Queenstown Marina Developments proposal included underground car parking, a floating marina moored to the lakebed and some marine related commercial activity.
