QLDC Approves Lakeview Development Milestone

Jun 29, 2018

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has taken the next step toward developing the Lakeview site, and creating a new mixed commercial and residential precinct.

QLDC Mayor Jim Boult confirmed that in yesterday’s Council meeting elected members approved council officers’ report recommending the project progress to the second phase of the procurement process.

“The Request for Expressions of Interest process was really positive and generated a mix of domestic and international interest. The submissions we received demonstrated strong capability and seemed to fully understand the unique Queenstown context. I believe that speaks to a potentially very positive outcome for the new Lakeview Precinct and the Queenstown community,” said Mayor Boult.

Following a rigorous evaluation of the 22 Expression of Interest submissions, four master developers have been provisionally short-listed for the Request for Development Proposals phase.

The report and officer recommendations were approved in a public-excluded part of the 28 June Council meeting due to commercial sensitivity. Shortlisted parties have been notified.

The Request for Development Proposal phase is the second milestone in the procurement process and, subject to evaluation and approvals, will identify the preferred master developer.

“What we want to see next in the process is a formal design proposal and commercial offer from each of the selected developers that reflects Council’s objectives. Any development agreement entered into with the preferred developer will include these objectives and implement long anticipated investment in the Lakeview site,” said Mayor Boult
