Food and beverage proposals requested for Council sport and recreation facilities

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) is seeking proposals for the provision of on-site food and beverage services at Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) and Wanaka Recreation Centre (WRC).
The successful provider for the QEC reception area will replace the existing operator Coffee Crew, whose tenure expires in March 2019, while the successful provider for WRC will operate a ‘coffee cart’ or similar operation outside the main entrance. It will be the first regular food and beverage tenant at the facility since it opened in July 2016.
QLDC Sport and Recreation Manager Simon Battrick said the tender process would be managed and awarded separately for each venue to reflect their different locations and customer base.
“There is well-established demand at QEC and feedback from our customers suggests an expanded offering will prove popular there. The ongoing development of Three Parks as a commercial, residential and education hub will certainly influence future demand at Wanaka Recreation Centre,” he said.
“We expect foot traffic to increase at both venues in line with district-wide population growth and Council’s ongoing investment in sport and recreation facilities through the twin masterplan projects currently underway.”

In approaching the market, QLDC hopes to identify experienced operators who can offer a menu of fresh and healthy food options while also providing high quality barista-style coffee alongside other hot and cold drinks. Minimum opening hours will be established as part of both tender processes to ensure service is available during each centre’s peak hours.
Both request for proposal documents are available on the Tenders and EOIs page of QLDC’s website. Proposals must be received before 10.00am on Friday 21 December 2018. It is anticipated that the WRC operation will begin by early February 2019 while the café service at QEC will begin on Monday 4 March.
Respondents will be evaluated on their ability to provide a well-run and engaging service alongside the quality, value and affordability of their product range. Separate proposals for each venue are welcome from a single provider who wishes to submit a tender for both locations.
