Lake Level Update

The Lakes District is enjoying a blue sky day today with the levels of Lakes Wanaka and Wakatipu peaking overnight and posing no concern. Lake Wanaka has not reached the first flood alert level, while Lake Wakatipu has levelled out marginally over the first alert level. The levels reached have resulted in some minor low level flooding of foreshore reserves at Queenstown Bay foreshore, Wanaka, Kingston and Glenorchy foreshores. It is business as usual in Wanaka and Queenstown. Although the lakes are full, tributary rivers have now dropped back to normal flow and the outlet rivers are continuing to flow strongly (Clutha and Kawarau Rivers). The Council and the Otago Regional Council will continue to monitor the situation but lakes are expected to drop with more settled weather now forecast.
