Boats and Trailers Brief
- Dec 17, 2009
In order to deal with the influx of people wanting to enjoy Lakes Wanaka and Wakatipu, locals are being warned to clear vessels from Frankton and Roys Bay Marinas, Queenstown Lakes District harbourmaster Marty Black said.
“The Marinas are intended for day use only but every year boaties take advantage of the space and leave their craft parked up long term,” Mr Black said.
With the annual summer growth in boat traffic, the Marinas had to be managed to allow everyone access.
“All boats and trailers must be moved from both Marinas, which can be used for day parking only,” Mr Black said.
Unfortunately there was little choice but to apply the Reserves Act to those boats and trailers left in the Marinas.
“We will commence impounding boats, at the owners’ expense, as of Monday 21 December,” Mr Black said.
He was more than happy to discuss the matter with boat owners, who were welcome to get in touch.
