Get Your 15 Seconds Worth

Dec 15, 2009

If you or your family are seriously into lighting your place for Christmas then help us promote your efforts, Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

The council’s own elves had been busy taking the Christmas spirit to the streets of its communities but for those who choose to ‘plug in’ it wanted to offer a chance to showcase the handiwork.

“In Wanaka, thanks to The Professionals Real Estate, the great ‘Light Up Wanaka’ competition has been running,” Mrs Maxwell said.

Budgets this year had not run to a competition for Queenstown but the council still wanted to celebrate those people that went the extra mile at Christmas.

“I would love to hear from those people so we can put together a bit of a map so everyone can cruise by and take in the show,” Mrs Maxwell said.

The council was doing its bit too with the council Wellingtonia and giant star all lit up for Christmas.

“It’s well worth a look, it just looks wonderful at night and I know there are other visual treats peppered across the district,” she said.

Anyone who was happy to go on a list for publication could contact Jan either by calling the council or emailing

Once compiled the list would be available on the council’s website and published in the council’s noticeboard in the Sun and the Mirror.
