Mayor pays tribute

Dec 1, 2008

Queenstown Lakes District Council Mayor Clive Geddes today paid tribute to Wanaka man John Pawson.

Mr Pawson, who lost his life last week on Mt Aspiring was - amongst many other roles he held - the chairman of the Upper Clutha Trails Trust, established by the council in 2007.

Councillors, the executive of council and the Wanaka Community Board, including chairman Lyal Cocks, were all deeply saddened by news of Mr Pawson's death.

"Since the Trust was formed last year, Mr Pawson has in a short time made an outstanding contribution to the community he was part of," Mr Geddes said.

Enhanced trails in the Upper Clutha would be an ongoing legacy to the work that Mr Pawson, together with his fellow trustees, had undertaken.

"The thing I really liked about John was that he would bring any concerns or issues he might have, together with potential solutions. He always brought something positive to discuss," Mr Geddes said.

On behalf of all those staff and elected members who had known and enjoyed dealings with Mr Pawson, Mr Geddes expressed his sincere condolences to Mr Pawson's family.

"It is a real loss to the Wanaka community," Mr Geddes said.
