Plans & Strategies
Council has developed a number of Strategies that deal with issues within the District. These Strategies set the direction Council wishes to take to address these issues and provide recommendations for actions to be taken. Many of these Strategies will feed into the District Plan Review. You can view the Strategies here.
Future planning workshops were undertaken district-wide from 2002-2004, resulting in the preparation of community plans for Queenstown, Wanaka, Arrowtown, Glenorchy, Hawea, Cardrona, Kingston, Luggate and Makarora. You can view the Community Plans here.
Wanaka Structure Plan
Following the Wanaka 2020 workshops, Council decided that it needed to undertake detailed structure planning of the land surrounding the Wanaka township. This was key to making sure that Wanaka develops in a managed way that meets the needs of the growing community.
The Structure Plan provides direction for future new zones in the District Plan. This report was adopted as a working draft by the Strategy Committee in November 2004, then reviewed and adopted by the Council on 19 December 2007. Council now plans to incorporate the Structure Plan into the District Plan Review.
