Alcohol Restrictions in Public Places Bylaw 2018
Following consultation with the community the Queenstown Lakes District Council adopted a new Alcohol Restrictions in Public Places Bylaw, which comes into force on 30 November 2018.
The ban covers Queenstown, Frankton, Arrowtown, Wanaka and Lake Hawea between 8:00pm and 8:00am every day.
24 hour alcohol bans are put in place during Christmas and New Year from 6:00am, 27 December to 6:00am, 6 January the following year and during Winter Festival from 6:00 am on the opening day of the festival to 6:00am the day after the last day of the festival.
They also apply from 12.00am on National Crate Day to 12.00 am on the following day.
Please note that a breach of the alcohol ban area is an offence and an infringement notice may be issued ($250).
The restrictions prohibit:
(i) The consumption of alcohol in any Specified Public Place during any Specified Period;
(ii) The possession of alcohol in any Specified Public Place during any Specified Period;
(iii) The bringing of alcohol into any Specified Public Place during any Specified Period; and
(iv) The consumption and possession of alcohol in a vehicle in any Specified Public Place during any Specified Period.
