Requirements for new alcohol licence applications

Applications for alcohol licences (new, renewal and variations) need to be publicly notified.

The public notices for all applications in the Queenstown Lakes District are published online above.

Since 1 September 2020, public notices are no longer published in local newspapers. This means that you will need to visit the page linked above to see if there’s an application that interests you.

Members of the public can object to an application for an alcohol licence if they have an interest in the application that would be considered greater than the general public. Any objections must be made within 15 working days* of the public notice being published.

Licensees (‘applicants’) are also required to display a copy of the public notice at the front of the premises, so it can be viewed from the outside.

If you have a query about an application, a public notice, or the notification process, please contact the Alcohol Licensing Team on (03) 441 0499.
