Rates relief for Visitor Accommodation

COVID-19 has significantly impacted Queenstown’s tourism economy. As a result, we understand that a lot of properties that were previously being used for visitor accommodation purposes will now be used for long term residential use. This will have an impact on the rates to be paid for these properties.

If you do not intend to use your property for visitor accommodation for the next 12 months, or you are significantly reducing the amount of visitor accommodation use to less than 180 days per year, you can complete the form below to apply to have your rates adjusted.

You will be required to make a declaration that you are aware of your obligations to pay rates and that you will use the property in the manner you specify in the application form for the next 12 months.

This adjustment will have effect for the rating year commencing on 1 July 2020. Your rates will revert back to your pre-covid visitor accommodation rates in July 2021 unless you contact us prior to 30 June 2021.

There is no requirement to adjust resource consents to be eligible for the visitor accommodation rates relief.

Note: This relief is not available to Hotels, Motels, Commercial Timeshare Units, Managed Apartments and Motorcamps.

You must apply before 30 June 2020 to obtain the relief.
