Trade Waste Registration

Trade waste is commercial and industrial liquid waste that is disposed of through the Council wastewater system.

This includes discharge from restaurants, takeaway outlets, food processors, car wash outlets, service stations, and chemical manufacturers and much more.

Liquid trade waste has been identified as an issue that needs to be addressed in the Queenstown Lakes District. It has a direct effect on the health of our waterways and the cost of maintenance and repairs of our infrastructure.

Over the next few months all businesses that discharge liquid waste will be required to register their trade waste discharges with the Council.

Register now:

If your business discharges trade waste, please complete the form below.

Our Trade Waste and Compliance officer will also be visiting businesses district-wide over the next few months to talk about the process.

What happens next:

Applications will be assessed according to the quality and quantity of your discharge and the potential effect it might have on the environment.  This will be followed up with recommendations on how to improve the discharge quality and support the collective effort to minimise our environmental footprint.
