Glenorchy Marina Carpark Upgrade
Queenstown Lakes District Council and Fulton Hogan Ltd will be working to upgrade the Glenorchy Marina carpark. The marina is an important community asset providing boat access from the township to the surrounding waterways.
Quick links
About the project
The carpark upgrade works will improve the layout of the area, helping to manage congestion during peak periods. The project also involves the installation of a new stormwater system, providing environmental benefits and protecting the water quality of Lake Whakatipu.
The work will involve earthworks, drainage and service installation, asphalt and chip seal surfacing, associated pavement and landscaping.
Physical works will commence early August 2024, with completion estimated by the end of November 2024.
What to expect
Parking: the marina carpark will be closed during construction. Alternate parking will be available in other lakefront carparks or along Benmore Place. We’re aware of a fishing competition scheduled for October – the marina carpark will be accessible during this event.
Accessing boat ramps: one of the marina’s two boat ramps will be accessible for most of the construction works, excluding a small number of days when concrete and asphalt are being laid. The diagrams below show the proposed staging of construction works for continual boat ramp access.
Changes to traffic movement: there may be minor disruption to road users along Benmore Place, with a temporary give way during construction activities. Please allow extra time if travelling in this area and follow the traffic management signs or instructions of the traffic management team.
Public toilets and Skateboard/Bike Park users: these facilities will be accessible during construction works. Please follow all safety instructions and signs when using these facilities.
