Queenstown Lakes District Council’s (QLDC) Parks department has awarded two new maintenance contracts to ensure the operational services for Parks and Reserves continue to be delivered efficiently on behalf of residents and ratepayers.

Councillors voted to award the two maintenance contracts following an open procurement process at a public excluded session – due to commercial sensitivity at that stage of the process – at the end of the Full Council meeting of 29 May.

QLDC Parks Manager of Operations and Contracts Adrian Hoddinott said the new contracts have been signed and will begin on 1 July after a period of onboarding to establish/renew working relationships and operational requirements.

“We’d like to thank all those suppliers who submitted tender responses. The more suppliers that want to partner with Council to undertake essential activities across the district means a more competitive process, driving value for money and ensuring that we get the right people undertaking the right roles and responsibilities,” said Mr Hoddinott.

“Green by Nature, was successful in retaining the Open Spaces, Arboriculture and Vegetation maintenance contract. Its responsibility continues to include tree maintenance, planting and pest plant programmes, sports field management, cemeteries and interment services, event management, playgrounds, mowing, and servicing facilities such as drinking fountains and toilets.”

“Asplundh was successful in retaining the Tracks and Trails Maintenance contract. It continues to manage and maintain the district’s much celebrated trails network including 113km in the Whakatipu Basin and 62km in the Upper Clutha. The company will also deliver renewal programmes on these assets to meet Council requirements which is to connect our communities, provide opportunities for recreation and exercise, and offer an alternative mode of transport to cars and public transport.”

“I’d also like to express my gratitude to Delta and its team with whom we’ve been working since 2017 to deliver the High Profile Turf contract. Its commitment and dedicated service over the years has been much appreciated, not only by Council staff but also by the wider community. These types of sporting assets and their delivery are setting the benchmark nationally in terms of user experience.”

“In addition to this work, Delta has helped this district host 39 domestic sporting events, 21 international sporting camps for cricket, NRL, AFL and Super Rugby including a Blackcaps T20, and a number of One Day games.”

Mr Hoddinott said members of the community will continue to see Green by Nature and Asplundh company vehicles and staff out and about across the district.

Three Requests for Proposal (RFP) were released on the Government Electronic Tender Service (GETS) online portal in January as an open competitive sourcing process. The key criteria asked for were to enable QLDC to deliver on its biodiversity and climate commitments, have the right people doing the right roles and responsibilities, grow capacity to deliver renewals and capital investment programmes, and deliver value for money.
