Road Closure update - 5 February 2020

A number of roads have been affected by closures, slips and surface flooding,

There are still a number of roads affected by closures, slips and surface flooding, following yesterday's rainfall. Please continue to drive to the conditions, take it slow and allow for extra time in your journey.

SH6 - Queenstown to Lumsden - SH6 Lakeside Estate to Lumsden is currently OPEN from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Aspiring Highways, in conjunction with Southroads and the Milford Alliance, will be escorting vehicles through from either direction at 4.00pm, 5.00pm, 6.00pm and 7.00pm (including vehicles able to get out from Te Anau/Milford Sound). The road will be closed again once the 7.00pm escort has left the closure points. It will reopen 7.00am-9.00am tomorrow morning, then close again to allow works to continue in the hope of being open by the weekend.
 
Glenorchy Road - slip cleared at Fernhill and Sunshine Bay and this section of road open from 7.00pm.

Glenorchy Road - a slip that had closed the road near Bob's Cove has been partially cleared (single lane with speed restrictions). Please take care as crews will be clearing further debris today when the Fernhill section opens

Paradise Road (Earnslaw Burn washout) - currently closed at Priory Road / Paradise Road turn off.

Kinloch Road – closed on the Glenorchy side of Dart River Bridge.

Routeburn Road (Scott Creek washout) – road closed and not passable

Mount Aspiring Road – closed from just after the Treble Cone ski field turn off onwards.

Gibbston Back Road - Open but 4wd recommended. Significant scouring on the road - please take care.

Skippers Road - There is a small slip at Gorilla Rock, which has closed the road. (see image).

Our engineering and inspection teams are currently assessing all damage to the roading network. We'll provide updates as and when roads are reopened.
