Gorge Road lane closure
A section of Gorge Road is set to have a lane closure from Monday 12 May until Friday 6 June.

Alliance crews will return to remediate a section of wastewater pipe under Gorge Road between 4 Gorge Road and Weaver Street in Queenstown, involving the realignment of the pipe and any associated works that may be required to reinstate the footpath, kerb and channel.
Queenstown Lakes District Council Property & Infrastructure General Manager Tony Avery acknowledged locals and businesses in the area will be affected and thanked them for their patience while this work is undertaken.
“A quality assurance inspection of the wastewater line has identified a dip in the pipe that was installed by the Alliance in August 2023. We believe it’s related to issues that were encountered with a large concrete obstruction when the pipe was laid, and this has affected the alignment of the pipe. The pipe needs to be relaid to prevent ongoing maintenance issues. The work will cause inconvenience to local businesses and residents, but the Alliance are confident they will be able to complete the work within the 26-day timeframe and the wastewater network will operate as planned.”
To complete this work as quickly and safely as possible, one lane along a section of Gorge Road will be closed to traffic.
The road closure will mean traffic will not be able to enter Gorge Road at the Shotover Street intersection and a detour will be in place via Robins Road.
Traffic will still be able to exit Gorge Road at the Shotover Street intersection.
Throughout the closure, resident, business and emergency services access will be maintained via Robins Road.
The following access restrictions and detours will be in place over the course of the work:
-
Business access to Henry Street will remain via Gorge Road from the Arthurs Point end of the road
-
On Henry Street, you will not be able to continue towards Arthurs Point
-
Please use the Robins Road detour, via Shotover Street and Memorial Street, to access Gorge Road and on to Arthurs Point
-
Alternatively, if you are heading to Arthurs Point from Frankton Road, please use Hallenstein Street.
Signage onsite will provide clear directions on how to move safely through the area.
While the work is expected to take 26 days to complete, these dates may shift depending on construction progress, weather conditions, and any other unforeseen factors that may occur.
