Frankton Campground
Work to redevelop Frankton Campground on Lake Avenue into a 'camping only' facility is now complete.
DocumentsAbout the redevelopment
Redevelopment of the Frankton Campground provides the opportunity to create a much needed camping space for both domestic and international holiday makers visiting the Queenstown Lakes District.
New additions to the site include:
-
A new Main Service Building, providing kitchen and dining areas positioned to overlook Lake Whakatipu
-
An additional games and media room
-
New cabins
-
New shower and toilet blocks
-
The installation of spa pools, playgrounds and other leisure equipment
-
The provision of space for an active-travel route, linking Frankton with the Queenstown Town Centre as part of QLDC's Way To Go project.
A lease was granted over land for redeveloping and operating Frankton Campground on Thursday 10 December 2020, with successful tenderer BRG Queenstown Limited bringing with it over 16 years of campground operations experience.
Redevelopment commenced on 1 February 2021, with Driftaway Queenstown now complete and open for business.
