Introducing Scout - our new AI Site Assistant. You can ask Scout questions to find the information you need on our website. This page provides answers to some frequently asked question – use these to find out more about Scout and how the tool works.

Frequently asked questions

  • There is a lot of content on our website and at times information can be hard to find - especially for users who don’t visit our site often. Scout removes that barrier by providing instant, accurate and source-cited answers without the need to click through various pages.

  • Scout is built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI and Cognitive Search.

  • No. Scout will not capture any personal data (i.e names and addresses) and will only provide users information based on what exists on the QLDC website.

  • Scout will only answer questions related to content that exists on our website.

Some of our content sits on external websites, for example the E-plan, Queenstown Lakes District Libraries, Edocs or Mapping information. Scout will provide links but cannot surface information from within these external sites.

  • Our website is updated daily and Scout is always learning. At times, it’s possible that Scout may make a mistake and provide out of date information. If this occurs, please provide feedback by disliking the response and filling out the form provided. Alternatively, you can head directly to our feedback form.

  • Scout is a Nevis Skink, native to both the Whakatipu Basin and Upper Clutha. You can identify a Nevis Skink by the dark stripe along their back, black or rich-brown colouration on upper surfaces, mustard-yellow belly and thick, pale, cream or yellowish stripes.

The Nevis Skink inhabits grasslands and shrublands, often with rock cover. Their conservation status is ‘at risk/declining’ both regionally and nationally. You can learn more on Otago Regional Council’s website.
