Overnight water shutdowns in Wānaka
Water will be turned off for up to 60 minutes overnight.
Water shutdowns will only take place from Sunday to Thursday nights, between 2.00am and 4.00am to minimise disruption as much as practicable. This will happen between 8 June and 24 June 2026.
The works will take place across eight areas in Wānaka, as shown on the below map. Most areas will only require one night of work, but we may need to return to some locations if zero pressure cannot be achieved on the first night.
Week 1: June 8-12
June 8: Far Horizon and Heaton
June 9–12: Upper Beacon Point and possibly Albert Town and Hidden Hills
Week 2: June 15-19
Albert Town and Hidden Hills
Lower Beacon Point
South Wānaka
Western and CBD
Week 3: June 22-24
Plantation and Totara
Upper Plantation
Dates are indicative only.

What to expect
During testing, there may be:
Drops in water pressure
Short periods where water supply may be unavailable
Why is this happening?
We are working to identify and assess leaks within the water network and improve the accuracy of water‑loss measurement. To do this, contractors need to turn off the water supply and carry out zero‑pressure testing and flow measurements. The results will help improve the reliability and efficiency of Wānaka’s water network.
What else?
As good emergency preparedness practice, we recommend keeping stored water on hand. This is a great opportunity to check your supplies. You can find helpful guidance on the Gets Ready website.
Thank you for your patience and support while this important work is carried out.
