Queenstown Lakes Libraries is excited to launch LitFest 2026 – a district-wide festival of literacy running throughout May and June. Now in its second year, the programme features a range of free events from workshops to author talks and Rainbow Storytimes.

Queenstown Lakes District Library Services Manager Sue Gwilliam said LitFest is about celebrating literacy in all its forms. “We have events for all ages and groups, including families, young readers, and adults. We have also expanded our reach with more events in smaller communities,” she said.

The festival begins in May with a focus on neurodiversity, including an adult ADHD workshop and several sessions designed to support adults and parents wanting to better understand dyslexia. “These sessions are about empowering people with knowledge and helping them navigate their own experiences or support loved ones,” said Ms Gwilliam.

Throughout May there are workshops on spoken‑word performance, micro‑fiction, poetry, and book cover design. As well as author events, including an evening with bookseller and writer Ruth Shaw, the launch of Eva Wong Ng’s memoir Daughter of Two Cultures, and a talk with mountaineer, author, and filmmaker Brian Hall.

June features a community singing session in Wānaka, as well as a series of Rainbow Storytimes for tamariki held across the district. There are workshops for Spanish speakers navigating life in Aotearoa New Zealand, a beginner te reo Māori session, and financial literacy.

All LitFest events are free, though some workshops require registration due to limited space. Visit your local library or check out qldclibraries.govt.nz to view the full programme and make a booking.
