Our Community Kai Story
A celebratory tale of food, people and connections across the Queenstown Lakes District. Filled with vibrant stories, delicious recipes and local knowledge from across our district. This book shines a light on many of the superstar organisations, community groups and individuals who work together to make sure no one goes without.
Kai (food) is an essential basic need for life and also a vital part of connecting with others. Kai welcomes newcomers to our community, it is part of celebrating important events, and central to how we show Manaaki (to show respect, generosity and care).
Our Community Kai Story details some of our district’s local sources of kai and shares knowledge about how to grow, gather, cook and care for these resources. It’s about our home and how we move forward into the future together through kai.
This book is a tribute to our communities, to honour our diverse culture and the resilience, manaaki and strength of our people.
