About the project
We’re in the process of gathering detailed aerial and ground survey information to help inform the design of potential flood mitigation works in Glenorchy, following technical investigations into flood hazards affecting the area.
Once the survey and a preliminary design is complete, we’ll share the proposed works with residents in Glenorchy to gather feedback before starting work on a detailed design.
Geotechnical investigations
Speight Drilling will be undertaking work along sections of the Glenorchy Walkway to assess ground conditions and help inform the design of potential flood‑mitigation works.
Additional investigations will take place within the Buckler Burn area to assess the quality of the riverbed material and determine whether it may be suitable for use as fill in flood‑mitigation works.

The site investigations are expected to take one week, beginning Monday 27 July. At this stage, no track closures are anticipated. The drilling contractor will implement localised pedestrian management as needed, with spotters on site to safely guide foot traffic around active work areas.
As with any work of this nature, some noise and vibration may occur. The contractor will work to minimise these impacts wherever possible.
Once the investigations are complete, a more detailed design will be developed, and we will share the proposed works with Glenorchy residents.
Aerial and ground survey
An aerial and ground survey of Glenorchy was completed 16 March – 20 March 2026.
The survey included:
Collection of aerial imagery using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV/drone) across the Glenorchy township.
In some cases, brief access onto private properties to capture ground survey points needed to accurately calibrate the aerial survey.
Future engagement
We plan to undertake community engagement on preliminary designs for potential flood mitigation works once we have a preliminary design in place, and expect this to take place in July 2026.
