Registering your interest in community space
Queenstown Lakes District Council supports community groups by providing long term access to Council‑owned community facilities and land, where opportunities are available.
As community space is limited and often in high demand, we’re introducing a clearer and more consistent way to manage requests across the district.
We recognise community space is important to many groups, and collecting this information will help us build a clearer picture of current and future community space needs across the district.
Before your enquiry
Important information you should know before you submit your enquiry:
The enquiry form helps us understand demand and ensures we can notify interested groups if suitable opportunities become available in the future.
There are currently no community facilities available for lease and limited opportunities for use of Council land.
Registering your interest does not guarantee that space will become available or that your group will be offered a lease.

This process is for long‑term use of Council‑owned community spaces, such as:
Room only - Exclusive lease of a room within a community building
Whole building - Leasing an entire community building
Land - Leasing Council land for a community purpose
New facility - Requesting a new facility build or land to develop one
These arrangements are generally for long-term use and may involve multi‑year lease agreements (for example, three to five years).
This is not for short‑term or casual bookings, such as one‑off events, classes, or meetings, or regular venue hire.

In the past, community space requests have come to Council in many different ways, making it difficult to keep information together and understand the level of demand across the district.
The enquiry form provides a single place for community groups to register their interest, helping us manage requests consistently, build a clearer picture of community need, and be transparent about how future opportunities are managed.

Once you've submitted the enquiry form, Council staff will review the information provided and may contact you if we need any further details.
We'll keep your enquiry on file and check in from time to time to see whether your space needs have changed. If a suitable community space opportunity becomes available in the future, we'll contact interested groups directly and let them know about the next steps, including any application process that may be required.

The enquiry form is hosted on SmartyGrants. If your organisation doesn't already have a SmartyGrants account, you'll be asked to register before completing the enquiry.
