About the project
The landfill near Tucker Beach in Frankton was closed and sealed in 1999, but routine inspections have found existing capping at the site and the slope in the area requires rehabilitation.
To secure the site’s long-term future, work will be carried out in January and February 2026 to place new material and topsoil along the landfill slope. Work is already underway to stockpile the required clean fill and topsoil nearby.
The existing rabbit-proof fence at the northern edge of the area will be temporarily removed. Some bigger plants will also need to be removed and relocated where possible.
Once the fill and topsoil is in place, the site will be grass seeded and the rabbit-proof fence will be reinstalled.
Subject to available budget, a selection of natives will be planted in the area.
Construction dates
Preparations are already underway at the construction site.
Physical works will take place from January to April 2026.
What to expect
Some disruption should be expected in the area once physical works begin in January, including noise, and increased construction machinery and truck movements around the work site.
Part of the Tucker Beach access trail nearby will be temporarily closed, and pedestrians and cyclists will need to follow signage to move safely around the construction site.
Dogs should be kept on lead and a safe distance from the area.
