Crown Range Road will close from 10.00pm tonight (Thursday 27 August) due to poor weather conditions. Chains must be carried for traffic heading over ahead of the closure. The closure point will be between Eastburn Road and Cardrona's snow gate. Alternative route via SH6 Kawarau Gorge available.

A slip has affected the Two Mile Water Treatment Plant along Queenstown-Glenorchy Road. We're asking residents and businesses in the following areas to reduce water use where possible while crews work to restore normal service: Fernhill & Sunshine Bay, Queenstown CBD and Frankton Road. Overview

The Harbourmaster’s Office is responsible for managing all marine-related activities that may affect the safety of navigation of vessels on QLDC’s many waterways. We oversee all rivers and lakes in the district. 

Work includes the regulation of commercial lake and river activity plus a wide range of recreational boating activities – that’s everything from kayaking to jet boating, sailing to stand up paddleboarding. 

The harbourmaster and waterways patrol team work hard to ensure that the QLDC Navigation Safety Bylaw 2025 is adhered to through education and enforcement so that that locals and visitors alike can continue to enjoy Queenstown Lakes' world-class waterways with confidence.  

Harbourmaster key functions: 

  • oversee maritime safety 

  • promote safe boating and maintain safe boating signage at local boat ramps 

  • manage and maintain navigation aids 

  • remove hazards, such as abandoned vessels 

  • work with water users and other stakeholders on matters related to the waterways

  • educate waterways user about local rules and regulations 

  • regulate commercial activity on the district’s lakes and rivers. 

  • review applications to hold an event on the water
