Robins Road Wastewater Upgrades
Project Status

Location Map
About the project
We’re upgrading wastewater infrastructure on Robins Road in Queenstown as part of our ongoing commitment to improving local infrastructure and ensuring a clean and healthy environment for everyone.
The existing pipeline running through the area takes wastewater from properties in Arthurs Point, on Gorge Road in Queenstown, and the surrounding streets. However, it has limited capacity to allow for more development in the area, runs underneath several private properties, and is located within close proximity to Horne Creek.
By upgrading wastewater infrastructure and installing a new pipeline down Robins Road, we can provide enough capacity for future housing in the area. We’ll also be able to reduce the risk of severe weather leading to wastewater overflows that affect private properties or enter Horne Creek and Lake Whakatipu.
Once complete, the new pipeline will run along Robins Road between the Horne Creek bridge and Boundary Street, before connecting with recently completed infrastructure at Queenstown Recreation Ground and the existing pump station nearby.
While on site, we’ll also install a new watermain on part of Robins Road.
Latest updates
Wednesday 5 November 2025
The tender for this work has been awarded to HEB, and work on Robins Road is expected to begin on Monday 10 November.
Initially, crews will start by laying a new watermain near the footpath on the eastern side of Robins Road, running from the Horne Creek bridge to just beyond Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel.
Wastewater pipeline installation works will not begin until January 2026.
What to expect
As with any large construction project, there will be some disruption on Robins Road while we carry out these upgrades. We’ve broken the project into stages and detail what to expect in each one below, but generally, work on Robins Road will include footpath closures, road closures, increased heavy machinery in the area, noise, and vibrations.
We’ll contact residents, businesses, and affected parties in the area well in advance of any key disruptions to share more information about what’s happening on Robins Road, and to see how we can accommodate your needs.
Generally, crews will be working from 7.30am to 5.30pm each day, from Monday to Saturday. There will be brief periods where some night works may be required too.
Stages of work
-
Installation of a new watermain on Robins Road running from the Horne Creek bridge to just beyond Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel, which will include some excavation of the footpath on the eastern side of the road.
Robins Road will remain open to both lanes of traffic during this time.
Some stop/go will be required for vehicle entrances to properties, but resident access will be maintained.
Close
-
Installation of a section of the new wastewater pipeline underneath Robins Road, from Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel through to Hamilton Road, which will include excavations and the installation of sheet pile pits.
Robins Road will be closed to both lanes of traffic from Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel through to Hamilton Road during this stage of work.
Noise and vibrations should be expected by properties near the work site.

-
Installation of the next section of wastewater pipeline underneath Robins Road, from Hamilton Road through to just outside Queenstown Holiday Park Creeksyde. This work will include excavations and the installation of sheet pile pits.
The northbound lane on Robins Road will be closed from Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel through to Queenstown Holiday Park Creeksyde during this stage of work. The southbound lane will remain open.
Noise and vibrations should be expected by properties near the work site.
Please note: As part of this stage of work, approximately three days of work will take place that will affect Creeksyde’s entrance way. We’re expecting this at a date to be confirmed in early May, but will maintain access to and from the property during these dates.

Some properties near the worksite have been contacted regarding a pre-construction assessment, also known as a dilapidation survey. These are a requirement of the project’s resource consent and serve to document the existing condition of a property to record its condition before the construction of the new pipeline.
These surveys are used to review and record the condition of a property before construction.
