Cemeteries and Crematoria Week 2025 runs from 31 October through until 9 November 2025.

Whakatipu Walkie Talkie Group hosts Cemeteries Chat

The Whakatipu ladies Walkie Talkie group invites those interested in learning about our local cemeteries to come for a walk and a chat kicking off Cemeteries and Crematoria Week 2025. Please meet at the Frankton beach carpark, the walk will be along the Frankton Track to the Hilton Hotel and back (about 1 hour). 

  • When: 10.15-11.15am, Thursday 30 October

  • Where: Starting at Frankton Beach carpark.

Día de los Muertos - Day of the Dead

The Mexican Community of Wānaka warmly invites you and your whānau to join us in celebrating Día de los Muertos at Paetara Aspiring Central. This event is open to all ages, offering a great opportunity to experience the rich traditions of Mexico. 

Enjoy delicious authentic Mexican food, colourful altars honouring our loved ones who have passed, and engaging activities for the whole family. Workshops, arts and crafts, and lively music will keep children engaged, with plenty of activities for all to enjoy. 

Feel free to bring photos of your loved ones who have passed, if you’re comfortable, and be a part of this meaningful celebration as we come together to remember and honor those no longer with us.

  • Where: Paetara Aspiring Central (35 Plantation Road, Wānaka)

‘People from Our Past’ Historical Encounter

Members of the Queenstown and District Historical Society will present a series of monologues as prominent figures interred in the Arrowtown Cemetery. Come along to hear highlights from the lives of colourful figures of our past!  

  • When: 2.00-3.15pm, Sunday 2 November

  • Where: Arrowtown Cemetery (20 Durham Street, Arrowtown)
