Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has received a letter from central government approving its water services delivery plan in accordance with the Local Government (Water Services Preliminary Arrangements) Act 2024.

The letter, from Secretary for Local Government Paul James to QLDC Chief Executive Mike Theelen, noted that the assessment process for the plan included a financial and technical assessment, to confirm the plan meets the financial sustainability requirements outlined in the Act; and a legislative assessment, to ensure that all requirements set out in the Act have been met.

Mr James’ letter also noted QLDC’s planned continued investment in resilience improvements for its water infrastructure.

QLDC submitted its plan on 1 September in line with timings set by the Act. It reflects a separate decision made at the Full Council Meeting on 31 July to create a specific Council Controlled Organisation to deliver water services in the district.

As directed by the government, QLDC has now published the approved water services delivery plan on its website: www.qldc.govt.nz/our-water-done-well

The full letter from the Secretary for Local Government is also available on this webpage.
