Roading impacts in Queenstown Lakes

Many roads across the network were affected by a significant winter storm we experienced Thursday 27 August and Friday 28 August 2026.

Roads that remain affected as of Thursday 24 September 2026 are can be found below. Further updates on these roads will be communicated through QLDC's social media channels.

Skippers Road / Branches Road

Crews have been making good progress clearing slips and repairing Skippers Road following a recent weather event. The road is now open up to Deep Creek (approximately 7km from the Summit).

Caution is still advised along the open part of the road while crews continue to repair defects. Please follow their instructions and obey traffic management if traveling through here.

Beyond Deep Creek crews continue to work on Blue Slip and other damaged areas. This includes the installation of a new culvert. We're anticipating this area of the road to be closed for another two weeks.

Macetown Road, Arrowtown

Closed due to multiple slips and washouts along the road. 

SH6 Makorora-Hāwea

NZTA is completing slip repair work on SH6 Lake Hāwea to Makarora following the weather event. The road is open with daily convoys at set times, stay connected with State Highway updates on NZTA's Journey Planner app.

• SH6 Makarora-Hāwea (controlled convoys)

• Mount Aspiring Road, Wānaka (drive with care)

• Meads Road / Hunter Valley Road
