Queenstown Airport Corporation announces chair resignation
Mayor Glover said the Council would now consider next steps in terms of replacing the Chair on a permanent basis.
Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) Chairman Simon Flood has announced he will step aside from his role, in accordance with the terms of his tenure.
Mr Flood, who joined the QAC Board in December 2019 and was appointed Chairman in October 2024, has served the company through a period of significant change and development.
Queenstown Lakes District Mayor John Glover thanked Mr Flood for his contribution to the airport and the wider region.
"Simon leaves Queenstown Airport in extremely good health. The airport has achieved record passenger numbers, delivered increased dividends for the benefit of ratepayers, strengthened its customer experience scores and made significant progress in building a positive organisational culture, underpinned by a strong commitment to safety.
"These are important achievements for a company that plays such a vital role in our region's economy and connectivity. On behalf of the Council and our community, I thank Simon for his service and contribution to Queenstown Airport."
Critically Mr Flood bridged two tenures of Council and enabled both continuity and stability as the Airport geared up for a strong capital investment programme but felt the resignation was timely.
“I’m proud of what QAC has achieved while I have been a Director and the Chair. The company is now entering one of the most exciting chapters in its history with a major long term development programme,” he said.
Mr Flood, who is intending to spend more time in Christchurch, was looking forward to focusing on ongoing governance responsibilities across a number of companies.
“This is the right time to step away as a new chapter begins for both myself, my family and the company.”
QAC Deputy Chair Mike Tod will assume the role of Acting Chair, subject to the necessary shareholder approval and appointment processes.
Mr Tod has been a Director of QAC since October 2020 and currently chairs the Board's Safety, Operations and Risk Committee.
"The Board is seeking a seamless transition and continue to be focused on delivering safe, reliable airport operations while working closely with our shareholders and stakeholders to plan for the region's future aviation needs."
Mayor Glover said the Council would now consider next steps in terms of replacing the Chair on a permanent basis.
